"We need to ask Trump why tragedies like Sumy happen," says UCCA spokesperson
Spokesman for the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) Andriy Dobryansky noted that under Trump’s presidency, Russia increased its attacks on Ukraine
He made this statement in an interview with Espreso.
“There are many voices worldwide, from international leaders to senators and congressmen, now starting to say that during President Trump’s term, or his new administration, our enemy increased the level of attacks — more ballistic missiles and drones attacking Ukraine,” he said.
Andriy Dobryansky responded to Donald Trump’s accusation that if Trump had been president at the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian leader Vladimir Putin would not have started the war. He said, "Now, under his presidency, we need to ask him why these tragedies, like in Sumy on April 13, are happening."
“We can recall that Trump is now president, and he previously mentioned that Putin wouldn't have done this if he were president. So now we need to ask him why this is happening, why such tragedies, like in Sumy, are occurring now, while he is president,” he added.
On April 14, American leader Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former U.S. President Joe Biden of "allowing the war to start."
On the morning of Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, Russian army launched missile strikes on the center of Sumy. The attack killed and injured dozens of civilians, including children.
U.S. President Donald Trump called the attack on Sumy "horrific," adding that the Russians made a mistake. Later, he clarified his words, saying the mistake was allowing the full-scale war to begin.
