'Ukraine must withstand this information and political storm': military expert Zgurets on negotiations
Defense Express CEO Serhiy Zgurets noted that the statements from the American side currently align with the narratives and rhetoric of Russia
He said this on the air of the Espreso TV channel.
"We understand that the enemy's goal remains the same – the destruction of Ukraine as an independent state. What’s changing are the political and military mechanisms used to achieve it. The publications appearing in the Russian press are an attempt to pressure Europeans, Americans, and us, trying to convince everyone that this is what they want and that it must be done because it's written in their constitution.
These demands are completely unrealistic. When we talk about four regions, each of them has areas occupied by the enemy, but that does not mean we should withdraw our troops due to political pressure. That won’t happen. Doing so would be a serious blow to our internal resilience, stability, and trust in the authorities. This is a deliberate manipulation by Russia," Zgurets said.
According to him, certain topics are being pushed into the discussion that have no relevance to the current situation. The most unpredictable factor remains the actions of the United States.
"Until recently, the United States was our partner. Now, at this stage, American statements echo Russian rhetoric and narratives. This makes it impossible to talk about security guarantees or agreements where the U.S. would act as a guarantor.
At the same time, support for Ukraine from European countries is gaining momentum. Now, we must withstand this informational and political storm, which is being fueled by both Russia and the U.S. We need to ensure that this pressure does not lead to any outcomes beneficial to Russia and find ways to turn the situation in our favor," Zgurets emphasized.
- The Russian delegation at negotiations with the United States in Saudi Arabia is demanding control over four Ukrainian regions – Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.
- Oleksii Koshel, Doctor of Historical Sciences and head of Ukraine’s Voter Committee, believes that the issue of holding elections in Ukraine could become an important element of negotiations with Russia.
