Ukraine's President Zelenskyy arrives in UK for European Political Community summit
On July 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the UK to participate in the European Political Community Summit, where he emphasized the importance of Ukraine's air defense
He reported this on Telegram.
"The more effective our air defense is, the more helpless Putin will be. The fewer restrictions we have on the use of effective weapons, the more Russia will seek peace," Zelenskyy said during the inaugural plenary session of the Fourth Summit of the European Political Community.
The president added that Russian military airfields and missile launch sites should be destroyed. According to him, this will not only eliminate some targets but also reduce Russia's ability to continue the war.
Zelenskyy emphasized that missiles and drones are not "carriers of state sovereignty." He stated that a collective will is needed to shoot them down, just as it was with Iranian missiles and drones.
Earlier, the president said he had at the European Political Community summit, where the countries of the European space are meeting for the fourth time to discuss common themes and challenges.
In addition, the president will meet with King Charles III, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, government officials and heads of defence companies to discuss Ukraine-UK relations.
"We will sign an intergovernmental agreement to support the Ukrainian defence industry, discuss future defence cooperation and expand our defence capabilities," Zelenskyy added.
At the airport, Volodymyr Zelenskyy was met by Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, who officially took up his duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom on July 11.
Earlier, on February 8, Zelenskyy dismissed Zaluzhnyi from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and appointed Oleksandr Syrskyi to replace him.
