Victorious news of 898th day of war: Ukraine hits Russia's military airfield, Russian convoy destroyed in Kursk region
Russia lost five boats in one day, Ukrainian forces downed another Russian helicopter with an FPV drone, and Germany's Rheinmetall will provide Ukraine with eight Forward Surgical Team stations
Ukrainian army targets Russia's Lipetsk military airfield
On the night of August 9, the Ukrainian military struck at the Russian Lipetsk military airfield and destroyed air defense systems in the Donetsk region.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reports.
At night, Ukraine's Defense Forces struck at the Lipetsk airfield. During the attack, warehouses with guided aerial bombs and a number of other facilities near the airport were hit.
"Several sources of ignition were recorded, a large fire broke out, and multiple detonations were observed. It is known that Su-34, Su-35 and MiG-31 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces are based at the Lipetsk airfield. The results of the attack are being clarified," the statement says.
In addition, Ukrainian forces struck at Russian anti-aircraft missile divisions in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region.
"In particular, combat work was carried out on three enemy radars: two from S-350 systems and one from S-300. An accurate hit and destruction of one S-350 radar was confirmed. The information on the other two targets is currently being clarified," the General Staff wrote.
At the same time, according to the military, all three Russian radars stopped working after the strikes.
Russia loses five boats in one day
Captain Dmytro Lykhoviy, spokesman for the Tavria operational and strategic grouping of troops, noted that Russian forces are attempting to attack the footholds of the Defense Forces of Ukraine on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
He stated this on Espreso TV on August 9.
"From time to time, the Russian army tries to attack our footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro, north of the village of Krynky. However, given the nature of the terrain, Russia is not successful. Additionally, it is very difficult for them to reach Ukrainian firing positions there, as they must cross straits and water obstacles, which results in significant losses for their boats. For example, yesterday Russian forces lost five boats, despite the absence of direct military clashes," noted Lykhoviy.
The spokesman also noted that on the Zaporizhzhia front, Russian forces are attacking the positions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine with small infantry groups and without using armored vehicles.
"However, they are actively employing artillery and other means of destruction. As a result, the positions are periodically destroyed, and the Ukrainian military is forced to change their positions. Over the past day, the total losses of Russian forces in our operational area amounted to 75 people, including 40 killed, 34 wounded, and one captured," emphasized the spokesman for the Tavria operational and strategic grouping of troops.
Ukrainian forces down another Russian helicopter with FPV drone
Ukrainian soldiers with the SBU Special Operations Center’s M2 unit have hit another Russian helicopter with an FPV drone in Russia's Kursk region.
Blogger and volunteer Serhii Sternenko reported the information.
"The soldiers with the M2 unit of the SBU Special Operations Center were able to hit another Russian helicopter with an FPV drone in the Kursk region," the statement says.
According to Sternenko, the helicopter was hit by an FPV drone, which was funded by Ukrainians themselves.
A Ukrainian UAV hit the Mi-8 helicopter in the tail section. The fate of the helicopter is unknown, it stopped operating in the area.
Germany's Rheinmetall to provide Ukraine with 8 Forward Surgical Team stations
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has signed a contract with the German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall for the supply of eight additional Forward Surgical Team stations (FST) to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Rheinmetall stated this on August 9.
It is emphasized that the order is part of Germany's program to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.
According to the agreement, Ukraine will receive eight turnkey-ready systems, equipped with highly modern medical technology, including an x-ray-container, an operating theatre, and a unit for intensive care.
The delivery is expected to begin in 2024 and be completed by the end of 2026.
For transporting each rescue unit, Rheinmetall also delivers a mobile component consisting of three HGVs (trucks).
“The medical care facilities from Rheinmetall are highly mobile, very fast operational, and quality-wise on the highest standard. The newly placed order underlines that our first deliveries to the Ukraine concerning medical technology have proven their worth,” Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, stated.
Russian convoy destroyed in Kursk region
The VoxCheck think tank and Suspilne have confirmed the destruction of a convoy of Russian equipment in the village of Oktyabrskoye, Russia's Kursk region. Suspilne reports.
A video of the broken Russian military equipment was filmed 8 km from Rylsk in the village of Oktyabrskoye, Kursk region.
"It was likely the reserves that the Russian authorities sent to the border villages. It is not yet known exactly what hit the convoy with the equipment," analysts suggest.
Videos and photos of the destroyed Russian convoy began to circulate online. They showed burnt-out military equipment and damaged tented trucks with dead soldiers.
Serhiy Bratchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South, said in a commentary for Nexta that ammunition depots intended for a Russian offensive on the Sumy region have been captured by Ukraine near the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region of Russia.
