U.S. shutting down Radio Liberty, Voice of America is a natural process and elections outcome

I grew up in Soviet times listening to the programs of Voice of America and Radio Liberty. They were a breath of fresh air for anyone who valued the principles of national democracy

Today, in Ukraine, amid limited freedom and national TV marathons, Voice of America and Radio Liberty have played a vital role in preserving democracy and journalistic standards. They inspired both the army and society to defend the freedoms they helped create. This is incredibly important. That is why I want to express my gratitude to the journalists of these outlets for their outstanding work. Without you, holding democratic elections would be much harder.

However, the closure of radio stations is a natural process and a consequence of the U.S. elections. For the winners, material gains now outweigh the importance of "democracy," while the losers have lost the instinct to defend the very democracy that Ukrainians continue to uphold.

For us, this is another lesson: we can only build a strong Ukraine on our own. Our allies may shift their priorities and values, but our determination to survive and win depends solely on our own strength.
