Ukrainian troops repel 36 Russian attacks in 5 directions - General Staff

Russian attacks across Ukraine

During the day, Russia launched 7 missile strikes, 67 airstrikes, and 79 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks resulted in civilian casualties. Multi-storey and private houses, as well as other infrastructure facilities, were destroyed and damaged.

Frontline situation 

Over the last day, 74 combat engagements took place. The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: about 40 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk sector, the Russian troops attacked the Ukrainian defenders’ positions 3 times near the towns of Synkivka and Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian soldiers repelled four enemy attacks near Terny and Spirne in the Donetsk region, where the Russian army tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. Artillery and mortar shelling affected about 15 localities.

In the Bakhmut sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled nine enemy attacks near Andriivka and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 14 Russian attacks in the areas of Berdychi, Orlivka, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. About 15 localities came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Novopavlivka sector, the Defense Forces are holding back the Russian army in the areas of Pobieda, Krasnohorivka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the Russians, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the Ukrainian defense 18 times. More than 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Orikhiv sector, Russia attacked the positions of our defenders 6 times near Robotyne and west of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region. About 20 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, Russia fired artillery and mortar shells at more than 20 localities in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military positions 

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 10 Russian military positions.

The missile troops destroyed 3 electronic warfare stations, including two R-330Zh Zhitel, and an ammo depot.

• On March 8, Serhiy Tsehotskyi, an officer with the 59th Detached Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakiv Handziuk, told Espreso that Russia really lacks specialists in some areas.
