The Security Service of Ukraine has officially implicated two Russian generals in orchestrating the bombing of residential zones in Borodyanka, resulting in the loss of innocent Ukrainian lives during the battles for Kyiv

This was reported by the SBU.

They collected evidence against Colonel General Alexander Chaiko, Commander of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Vladimir Kravchenko, Commander of the 11th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Russian Armed Forces.

The investigation reveals that in early March 2022, Chaiko issued an order to obliterate high-rise structures in the center of Borodyanka, Kyiv region.

Lieutenant General Kravchenko, in turn, directed SU-34 fighter-bombers and SU-25 attack aircraft from the 303rd Mixed Aviation Division of Russia to execute this destructive mission.

During these sorties, 500-kilogram high-explosive aerial bombs were unleashed on residential buildings, resulting in the deaths of over 30 residents, including a minor girl. Several victims remain unidentified and are considered missing.

The SBU underscores that, based on the evidence gathered through over 200 examinations, both Russian generals have been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. These charges pertain to the violation of laws and customs of war, coupled with intentional murder perpetrated by a group of persons based on a prior conspiracy. The SBU assures that comprehensive measures are in progress to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. The agency vows that both war criminals will be apprehended and punished.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.

  • On March 1, the SBU had already announced suspicions against two generals of the Russian Federation, accusing them of ordering the mining of the grain corridor and firing on Ukrainian energy facilities.
