Ukrainian Navy destroys third of Russian warships in Black Sea – AP
Ukrainian navy spokesperson announced Tuesday that they have sunk or disabled a third of all Russian warships in the Black Sea during over two years of war, dealing a significant blow to Moscow's military strength
The Associated Press News reports it.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, the Navy spokesperson, informed the Associated Press that the latest strike on Saturday targeted the Russian amphibious landing ship Kostiantyn Olshansky in Sevastopol, Crimea, which Russia captured in 2014.
Pletenchuk confirmed previous damage to two other landing ships, Azov and Yamal, and the intelligence ship Ivan Khurs in the same attack using Ukraine-built Neptune missiles.
Despite Russian claims of a Ukrainian attack on Sevastopol over the weekend, they did not acknowledge any fleet damage.
Pletenchuk stated that with this latest strike, a third of Russia's pre-war Black Sea warships have been destroyed or disabled, pledging continued strikes to rid the region of Russian military vessels.
Successful Ukrainian drone and missile strikes have bolstered morale in Kyiv, aiding against Russian attacks on the front line.
Challenging Russia's naval superiority has also improved conditions for Ukrainian exports from Black Sea ports.
While Russian officials have largely remained silent on Ukrainian claims, previous navy losses have been confirmed by Russian military bloggers and media, prompting criticism of the military's response.
Reports indicate a recent change in Russian navy leadership, with Adm. Alexander Moiseyev replacing Adm. Nikolai Yevmenov, although the Kremlin has yet to officially announce the reshuffle.
