Ukrainian MFA reveals key topics of Ukraine-U.S. talks in Saudi Arabia
Top officials from Ukraine and U.S. set to meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss war and strategic partnership
Next week in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and the United States will hold negotiations focusing on bilateral relations and Ukraine's path to peace.
This was announced by Heorhiy Tykhyi, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as cited by Ukrinform.
He noted that the Ukraine-U.S. dialogue is ongoing. Tykhyi also mentioned that the team accompanying President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would remain in Saudi Arabia for further negotiations with the American side.
"The agenda includes Ukraine-U.S. bilateral relations, our strategic partnership, and its further development. And, of course, at the center of the discussion is the path to peace. Ukraine is committed, ready, and desires peace more than anyone else in the world. We want to restore peace as soon as possible," Tykhyi emphasized.
At the same time, he stated that Ukraine has no information about any Russian representatives attending the talks.
"We have not received such information. As far as we know, the negotiations in Saudi Arabia are meant to be bilateral Ukraine-U.S. consultations, a meeting, and a dialogue," the MFA spokesperson clarified.
Next week, negotiations between Ukrainian and U.S. delegations regarding the Russia-Ukraine war will take place in Saudi Arabia.
A Ukrainian official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, will lead the Ukrainian delegation, which may also include Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
On the U.S. side, according to media reports, the participants will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff.
The news outlet Axios reported that the meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12.
