Russian MoD website is still down after servers were hacked on March 4
Ukrainian intelligence officers carried out a successful DDoS attack against the Russian Ministry of Defense, gaining access to servers, ciphers and secret documents of the department. As of March 5, the website has not yet been restored
The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reported the information.
"The Ministry of Defense of the aggressor state of Russia cannot cope with the consequences of the cyberattack by Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU). IP-telephony, domains of the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as servers that provided electronic document flow of the enemy structure remain blocked," the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine stated
On March 4, the agency noted that Ukraine now has information security and encryption software used by the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as an array of secret official documents of the Russian department.
In particular, these are orders, reports, instructions, and other documents that circulated among more than 2,000 structural units of the Russian security agency.
According to the intelligence, the information obtained allows the agency to establish the full structure of the Russian Defense Ministry system and its links.
"The analysis of the data also helped identify generals, other high-ranking heads of structural units of the Russian Defense Ministry, as well as deputies, assistants, specialists - all those who used the electronic document management software called Bureaucrat," the intelligence service emphasizes.
The military intelligence of Ukraine also got hold of the official documents of Russia’s Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov. The agency emphasizes that he played an important role in making the cyberattack successful.
"The work in Russian cyberspace aimed at obstructing and paralyzing the activities of law enforcement agencies and officials of the aggressor state responsible for the war against the Ukrainian people continues. It will continue!" Ukrainian intelligence officers emphasized.
