Ukrainian forces repel 53 Russian attacks over day, most in Lyman sector

On April 22, 62 combat engagements took place at the frontline. Russian troops attempted to storm the positions of the Ukrainian forces 53 times in six sectors. Most of all — in the Lyman sector.

Russian attacks on Ukraine

During the day, the Russian army launched 4 missile and 58 air strikes, fired 100 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

Frontline situation 

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 10 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk sector, the Russian enemy did not conduct any assault operations. Russian forces launched an air strike near Senkove, Kharkiv region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire, including Synkivka, Petropavlivka and Kotlyarivka in Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 14 attacks in the areas of Novoyehorivka, Serebryanske forestry in Luhansk region and Terny and Torske in Donetsk region. Artillery and mortar shelling hit more than 10 localities, including Nevske in Luhansk region and Terny, Yampolivka, Torske in Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian troops repelled 12 attacks in the areas of Zolotarivka, Spirne, Vyimka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka and Andriivka in Donetsk region, where Russian enemy was trying to improve its tactical position. The enemy launched an air strike near Bilohorivka, Luhansk region. About 20 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 10 attacks in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Semenivka, Umanske, Yasnobrodivka and Netaylove in Donetsk region, where Russian enemy, supported by air power, tried to force Ukrainian units out of their positions. Russian army also carried out air strikes near the settlements of Novokalynove, Berdychi, Oleksandropil, Semenivka and Illinka in Donetsk region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Novopavlivka sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold back Russian enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka and Urozhayne in Donetsk region, where Russia tried to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops 12 times. Russia launched air strikes near the settlements of Kostyantynivka, Novomykhailivka and Urozhayne in Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Krasnohorivka, Kostyantynivka and Vuhledar in the Donetsk region.

In the Orikhiv sector, Russian enemy, with the support of aviation, attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders once near Staromayorske, Donetsk region. Russian forces launched an air strike in the area of Mala Tokmachka, Zaporizhzhia region. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, the Russian forces do not abandon their intention to push Ukrainian troops out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, during the day, Russia made 4 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near Krynky, Kherson region. Russia conducted air strikes near the settlements of Novoberislav and Beryslav in the Kherson region. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire in the Kherson region.

Ukraine strikes at Russian positions

During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 2 anti-aircraft missile systems and 13 areas of concentration of enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment.

Missile troops destroyed a control center, 2 air defense facilities and an area of concentration of enemy personnel.

  • On April 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy chaired a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff, at which he instructed Ukrainian intelligence officers to collect everything known about Russia's intentions to destroy civilian infrastructure.
