Ukrainian drones strike two Russian explosives production sites
On the night of Saturday, June 14, Russians reported attacks by unknown drones targeting chemical plants in Russia’s Stavropol Krai and Samara region
Ukraine’s General Staff reported the information.
“As part of efforts to reduce Russia's capacity to produce explosives and ammunition, on the night of June 14, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ drone units, in coordination with other Defense Forces components, struck key facilities of the Russian military-industrial complex,” the statement says.
Specifically, Ukrainian forces hit the facilities of JSC NNK in Russia’s Samara region — a leading enterprise producing explosive components. Explosions and a fire were recorded in the industrial zone.
Additionally, according to the General Staff, a strike was carried out on the Nevinnomyssk plant in Russia’s Stavropol Krai — one of the main producers of basic components for explosives, ammunition, and rocket fuel.
This plant is involved in supporting Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. A series of explosions and Russian air defense activity near the target were reported, along with a fire in the industrial area.
The General Staff added that the damage assessment is still being updated.
Russia’s statement
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that it supposedly shot down 66 drones overnight. According to their data, 30 drones were downed over the Voronezh region, 10 over the Belgorod region, 8 over Stavropol Krai, 6 over occupied Crimea, one over the Samara region, and 11 over the Azov Sea.
Russian media reported that drones attacked the chemical plant Nevinnomyssky Azot in Stavropol Krai that night.
Local residents shared footage of the drones. Later, Stavropol Krai governor Vladimir Vladimirov confirmed the drone attack on the region, stating that debris fell in the industrial zone of Nevinnomyssk city. Initially, he reported one injured person, but later clarified that there were no casualties.
The chemical plant Nevinnomyssky Azot is the largest producer of nitrogen fertilizers and ammonia in Russia. Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, reported that Nevinnomyssky Azot is a critical part of Russia’s military-industrial complex. It produces up to one million tons of ammonia and over one million tons of ammonium nitrate annually — key components for explosives and artillery shells.
“This is where melamine, acetic acid, methanol, and potassium nitrate are synthesized — substances with dual uses, often employed in the production of high-explosive grenades, landmines, and rocket charges. Since 2024, the plant has started producing water-soluble fertilizers adapted to the needs of military chemistry,” Kovalenko explained.
Additionally, a chemical plant in the Samara region was damaged last night.
“There was an attempted UAV attack on one of the industrial enterprises in Novokuybyshevsk last night,” wrote the regional governor, Vyacheslav Fedorishev.
According to locals, the target was LLC Novokuybyshevsk Catalyst Plant — the largest specialized facility producing catalysts for refining and petrochemicals.
The attack was also confirmed by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation. He explained that this plant supplies Russia with catalysts essential for its oil refineries, which produce aviation fuel, diesel for armored vehicles, and rocket fuel — a crucial part of the logistics chain.
Kovalenko added that the plant restores old catalytic materials and creates new ones, without which there would be no fuel, lubricants, or explosives.
