Ukrainian drone operators destroy three Russian Buk systems in Kursk region in 12 hours
In the Kursk direction, Ukrainian drone operators from the Unmanned Systems Forces detected and struck three Russian Buk missile systems within 12 hours
This was reported by the Command of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces.
According to the report, the strikes were carried out by operators from the 414th Separate Unmanned Systems Battalion "RAID", working together with the "Dzhmil" combined unit from the 78th Airborne Assault Regiment.
The pilots launched accurate FPV drone strikes on a Buk-M2 launcher (transporter-erector-launcher) that Russian troops had hidden in a forest strip. The impact triggered a missile explosion and destroyed the system.
Operators from the battalion also struck two Buk-M3 air defense launchers, damaging their radar systems.
"The radar is a key part of the air defense system, used to detect air targets and guide missiles. Taking it out weakens the entire system’s combat effectiveness," the military said.
Reference: The Buk-M3 (9K37M3/SA-17 Grizzly) is a modern mobile anti-aircraft missile system used by Russia and is a core component of its air defense. It can destroy targets at altitudes up to 35 km and track them at distances up to 70 km. A full system costs around $45 million.
