Ukrainian anti-submarine corvette Hetman Ivan Mazepa passes first trials in Turkey
Turkey has conducted the first tests of the new Ukrainian anti-submarine corvette of the Ada class Hetman Ivan Mazepa
This was reported by Turkish columnist Enes Balcı on the social network X.
"The Hetman Ivan Mazepa (F-211) corvette, which is being built by RMK Marine Shipyard as the main contractor, has passed its first navigation tests today," Balci wrote.
Construction of the new Ukrainian corvette began in January 2021: steel was cut and sections were formed. In September 2021, the ship was laid down in Turkey. By that time, 13 sections and the ship's keel had been formed.
On August 18, 2022, the first Ada-class corvette of the Ukrainian Navy was named Hetman Ivan Mazepa, and on October 2, the ship was launched. The corvette will become the new flagship of the Ukrainian navy after the sinking of the Hetman Sahaidachny in connection with Russia's full-scale invasion.
The Ada-class Hetman Ivan Mazepa corvette will be adapted to all available types of anti-ship missiles. It is planned to be commissioned into the Ukrainian Navy in 2024.
In addition, another Ada-class corvette is being built for the Ukrainian Navy in Turkey. On March 8, 2024, during a visit to Turkey, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy named the corvette Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi.
Ada is a class of anti-submarine corvettes designed primarily for the Turkish Navy. The goal of the Ada project is to create a modern littoral combat ship with anti-submarine operations and patrolling capabilities in the open sea and with extensive use of stealth technologies (reducing visibility in radar, infrared and other areas of the surveillance spectrum).
