Ukraine's reconstruction costs estimated at $500 billion - Via Carpatia forum
Every day, Russian aggression destroys buildings and civilian infrastructure, takes lives, forces people to flee their homes, and forces businesses to move to safer regions to operate. The reconstruction process will be long and extensive
This was discussed at the Via Carpatia 2024 forum on Espreso TV.
Ukraine’s Deputy Minister for Communities and Territorial Development, Oleksii Riabykin, reported that the scale of destruction in Ukraine has reached approximately $500 billion.
"This is an enormous figure, and it grows daily. Russia is relentless in its aim to destroy Ukraine and its infrastructure, but we must endure. However, the primary resources of the state budget are currently devoted to waging war and meeting the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukraine now heavily relies on the support and solidarity of our Euro-Atlantic partners," Riabykin stated.
Ukrainian MP Artem Kovaliov noted that Poland has already proven to be a key military and logistical hub for Ukraine.
"I am confident that after our victory, Poland’s role will grow even stronger as a logistics hub and as a country that will help with reconstruction. Therefore, we need to start developing cross-border cooperation now, launching new infrastructure routes, and further connecting our countries," said Artem Kovaliov.
Anna Hopko, Head of the National Interests Defense Network, emphasized that after the U.S. election results, there are many hostile information and psychological operations, with adversaries trying to push unacceptable options on Ukraine.
"Without security guarantees, we cannot say that a large number of investors will view Ukraine as a serious investment destination. It is essential to secure Ukraine's prospects and resources. The interest from frozen Russian assets alone is not enough - we need the entire $300 billion. To achieve this, we should establish a Ukrainian Bank of Recovery and Prosperity, with an office in Brussels," Anna Hopko concluded.
