Ukraine's Parliament will not reconsider lowering mobilization age
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will not revisit the issue of lowering the mobilization age
The Parliament speaker, Ruslan Stefanchuk, made the statement on Hromadske Radio.
"I don't think Parliament will revisit the issue of lowering the mobilization age," said Stefanchuk.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada added that, at one point, the Ukrainian parliament had already lowered the mobilization age from 27 to 25 years. Additionally, there are special programs that voluntarily enlist individuals aged 18-24 who want to serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"I don't think Parliament will 'play around' with the draft age," commented Ruslan Stefanchuk.
He also emphasized the importance of thinking about the country's future. However, it is equally important to think about the future of the country, particularly the young people under 18 who will rebuild Ukraine.
"The 'golden fund' of Ukraine, those aged 0 to 18, are the ones who will rebuild Ukraine. Especially those who are here, who experience the reality of airstrikes daily, know the value of their lives, and the future of our state. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are fighting for them, so they will have a future," concluded the Speaker of Parliament.
- As of April 13, it was reported that many applications had been received for military service under the 18-24 program, but fewer than 500 people had signed contracts so far.
