Ukraine's north at risk of air pollution after Russian attack
On the evening of April 7, Russia launched attack drones and a Kh-59 missile at Ukraine. Critical infrastructure in Zhytomyr region and a logistics and transportation facility in Odesa region were hit, and a power line was damaged in Mykolaiv region
Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, reported that the Russians launched an Kh-59 guided missile from the airspace of the occupied Zaporizhzhia region and 24 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs from Cape Chauda in Crimea, Kursk and Yeysk districts in Russia to attack Ukraine.
Fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare assets were involved in repelling the air attack.
As a result of the air battle, the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down an Kh-59 guided missile in Dnipropetrovs'k region and 17 attack drones in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Khmelnytskyi, and Zhytomyr regions.
Zhytomyr region
Russia's kamikaze drones attacked a critical infrastructure facility in Zhytomyr region, in northern Ukraine, according to the head of the Military Administration Vitaliy Bunechko.
Based on preliminary information, there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the attack.
The Zvyagel City Council later reported a direct threat of air pollution. Residents are advised to stay indoors with the windows closed.
It is noted that schools, colleges and vocational schools will switch to distance learning.
Odesa region
According to the Southern Defense Forces, last night the Russians launched several waves of Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs at the southern regions.
Critical infrastructure was targeted. Air defense forces worked for 3 hours. As a result, the military managed to shoot down 4 UAVs in Odesa region, 2 in Mykolaiv region, and 1 in Kirovohrad region.
At the same time, a hit was recorded in Odesa region, damaging a logistics and transportation facility.
Shrapnel from the downed drone also damaged a gas station. No casualties were reported.
Mykolaiv region
According to Vitaliy Kim, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, last night, during the combat operations of the air defense forces, the wreckage of a downed "Shahed" damaged power lines in the region.
As a result, 14 settlements and one partially lost power. Work is underway to restore power supply. There were no casualties.
