Ukraine's Foreign Ministry calls on Mongolia to arrest Putin as required by Rome Statute
Ukraine has called on the Mongolian authorities to arrest Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and hand him over to the International Criminal Court in The Hague
This is announced in a statement by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
‘The Ukrainian side hopes that the government of Mongolia is aware of the fact that Vladimir Putin is a war criminal. The International Criminal Court, the jurisdiction of which is recognized by Mongolia, has issued a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of the illegal forced relocation of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation,’ the ministry said.
They noted that the abduction of Ukrainian children is only one of many crimes, including atrocities against the Ukrainian people, murder, rape, robbery, shelling of civilian infrastructure and genocide.
‘We call on the Mongolian authorities to execute the binding international arrest warrant and transfer Putin to the International Criminal Court in The Hague,’ the Foreign Ministry said.
- On August 30, the Kremlin press service announced that Putin was to visit Mongolia on September 3 at the invitation of President Ukhnagiin Khurelsukh. Putin's trip to Mongolia will be his first visit to a country that has ratified the Rome Statute. At the same time, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is not afraid of the Russian dictator's arrest.
