Ukraine wants Trump at possible Zelenskyy-Putin meeting — FM Sybiha
Ukraine admits that a future meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin could be in an expanded format, and would very much like American leader Donald Trump to join it
Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Minister Andrii Sybiha said this during a conversation with journalists, Ukrinform reports.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry emphasized that there can be no conditions for continuing the meeting that took place in Istanbul, because if you remove "all these pseudo-historical lectures from the Russian delegation," a clear agreement was reached there.
"First – the exchange of prisoners of war, and today the implementation of this point, as the President of Ukraine announced, has begun. The second point – we are waiting for the Russian side to provide their vision, their concept, their proposals regarding the parameters of a future unconditional truce," Sybiha said.
He added that Ukraine, for its part, is also preparing a vision, which will be conveyed to the Russian side.
"The third position that we are also working on is a meeting between Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and Putin. We admit that this meeting could be in an expanded format. We would very much like President Trump to join it. And we always consistently insist that Europe must be at the table of possible future negotiations," Sybiha noted.
He also answered affirmatively to the question of whether the Vatican is still being considered as a potential meeting place.
"Yes, by us. We are interested, and we are grateful personally to Pope Leo XIV for this proposal. We would welcome such a meeting in the Vatican," Sybiha said.
- On May 17, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a meeting between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is possible, but as a "result of work" after agreements are reached.
