Ukraine targets Lipetsk airfield, where Russian fifth-generation fighters were based - Defense Express
Defense Express military expert Oleh Katkov noted that Russian pilots were training on Su-57 fighter jets at the airfield in Lipetsk, Russia
He commented on this on Espreso TV.
“The attack on the airfield in Lipetsk continues the achievements, successes, and capabilities already demonstrated by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. It should be noted that this is not just any airfield. This is the Lipetsk training center, which has been used by Russia as a military airbase since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Not only Su and MiG fighters were based at this airbase; the so-called fifth-generation fighters, Su-57s, were also stationed there. They were visible in Google Maps images as early as 2023," Katkov explained.
The military expert also added that they are waiting for satellite images to confirm whether Su-57s were at the airfield in Lipetsk at the time of the attack.
"However, the Su-57s were based in Lipetsk, where Russian pilots were trained. It is not yet known whether they were damaged. What is certain is that the ammunition depot was destroyed. Local authorities evacuated the surrounding small towns. It was quite a spectacular fire show," Katkov emphasized.
