Ukraine-Russia truce talks “feasible” within weeks – Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron hopes that a truce in Russia’s war against Ukraine could be achieved in the coming weeks. However, he emphasized that such a development would merely serve as a prerequisite for full-fledged peace negotiations
BBC reported the information, citing Fox News.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that President Trump’s arrival at the White House had been a “game changer.”
Macron stated that he believed discussions on a truce in the ongoing war and negotiations for a lasting peace could be “feasible” within weeks.
He revealed that he had spoken with 30 European leaders and allies, many of whom were open to providing security guarantees for Ukraine. Additionally, he mentioned working with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on a proposal to send troops to the region.
The French president suggested that securing a U.S. commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty could be achieved through a deal on critical minerals, currently under negotiation between Washington and Kyiv.
In a sign of shifting dynamics on the global stage, the UN Security Council adopted a U.S.-drafted resolution that maintained a neutral stance on the war. The resolution was supported by Russia, while Washington’s traditional allies, including France and the UK, abstained.
