Ukraine prepares for worst-case scenarios as US military aid remains frozen
MP Yehor Cherniev says Ukraine can sustain itself for months with existing stockpiles but needs European funding to triple arms production
MP Yehor Cherniev, head of the permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, said this to LIGA.net.
"We are preparing for any scenarios, including the worst," the politician stated.
According to him, Ukraine can sustain itself for several more months with its existing stockpiles.
He also emphasized that the country has the potential to quickly triple arms production, provided there is adequate funding from European partners.
The MP added that Europe is also "waking up" and is ready to increase its own arms production and continue providing assistance to Ukraine.
Halt of US aid: What is known
American media reported that Donald Trump ordered the suspension of all current military aid to Ukraine until he is convinced that the country's leaders "demonstrate a sincere commitment to peace."
All American military equipment, including weapons that have not yet arrived in Ukraine, is being transported by planes and ships in transit or remains in transit zones in Poland, where it will stay.
On March 4, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the US had halted the delivery of military cargo to Ukraine.
At the same time, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated: "We are absolutely calmly continuing our work through all available diplomatic channels with the US, the US Congress, the Trump administration, and President Trump himself."
