Ukraine in talks with EU to equip, train strategic reserve brigades
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said Ukraine has started negotiations with European countries on training and equipping strategic reserve brigades
He said this after a meeting with EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius.
“We paid special attention to the training of strategic reserve brigades. We are already negotiating with a number of European countries to equip and train our units. We expect the EU to play a coordinating role in speeding up these agreements,” the minister said.
Umerov noted that Ukraine aims to provide the military with everything it needs to bring about a just peace.
According to the Defense Minister, Ukraine wants cooperation with each partner to become even more effective in 2025.
To this end, an analysis of the support Ukraine received in previous years has been launched and new areas of work have been outlined, namely: using the proceeds of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine, expanding the EUMAM training mission to train Ukrainian military, and investing in Ukraine's defense sector to strengthen domestic production.
- Ukraine's Defense Minister also recently met with Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal and briefed him on the current situation on the battlefield. Umerov also offered Estonia to train and equip one of the Ukrainian brigades.
