A month ago, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski warned in a Bloomberg interview that if the US fails to act or provide military aid to Ukraine, European allies will lose faith in Washington and may consider developing their own nuclear deterrent against Russian aggression.
Sikorski's statements underscore the current global tensions beyond the US. It's clear that Ukraine's aid issue has become entangled in US election politics, making Ukraine a mere pawn. However, failure to address the aid matter in the House of Representatives risks eroding US credibility among allies, transforming America from a global leader to an unreliable partner and potentially reshaping the world order as a consequence. The West's weakness only emboldens Kremlin aggression.
In this context, it is also worth mentioning Trump's populist statements. According to The Washington Post on April 8, former President Donald Trump privately proposed a plan to end the Ukraine conflict. No surprises here. He suggesting to cede Crimea and parts of Donbas to Putin.
Moreover, Donald Trump suggested the US might withdraw from the Alliance if he becomes president again. It is not for nothing that some experts say that the world won't stand another Trump presidency. Putin sees an opportunity amid the chaos in aid to Ukraine and Trump's rhetoric, exploiting it on the battlefield, resulting in territorial losses for Ukraine due to delayed military assistance.
French President Emmanuel Macron has hinted at deploying French troops to Ukraine after failed attempts to engage in dialogue with Putin. Whether a NATO country will actually send troops remains uncertain, but such statements already signal potential shifts in the global order.
These developments underscore how Russian aggression against Ukraine is reshaping the world security landscape. The situation remains unpredictable, and the outcome of the war with Russia is uncertain for Ukraine.
One thing to grasp is that Ukraine reaching its 1991 borders won't conclude this war, and its outcome will reshape the global power balance.
If Ukraine is coerced into negotiations with Russia, yielding territory, it won't just escalate conflicts worldwide but likely spark the Third World War.
Today, the world's fate is being decided here. The West must grasp this reality. If Russia goes unpunished for its actions, other dictatorial regimes will feel emboldened to pursue aggression and sow chaos.
