Ukraine destroys several key Russian missile and radar systems in November - Defense Ministry

In November, Ukrainian Defense Forces units destroyed numerous costly pieces of Russian military equipment, including Buk missile systems, Tor, S-400 Triumf, Solntsepyok flamethrowers, the Borisoglebsk-2 electronic warfare system, and the Zoopark radar

Destruction of Russian Buks

At the beginning of the month, Ukrainian drone operators struck a Buk-M2 air defense missile system on a tracked chassis.

"This system can engage targets either as part of an air defense complex with targeting from a command post or autonomously within a predetermined sector," the Ministry of Defense explained.

Later, on November 16, 19, and 29, Ukrainian forces successfully targeted three more Russian Buk systems of various modifications.

Destruction of Tor air defense systems

Ukrainian defenders also "hunted down" the Tor air defense system.

"This is the land-based counterpart of Russia's sea-based Kinzhal air defense system. It is designed to carry out anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense tasks at the divisional level," the Ministry of Defense explained.

Solntsepyok destruction

In November, one of Ukraine's ground units added two heavy flame-throwing multiple rocket systems, TOS-1A Solntsepyok, to the list of destroyed enemy targets.

Russian Borisoglebsk-2 electronic warfare system destroyed

Ukrainian forces also struck the Russian electronic warfare system Borisoglebsk-2.

"The system's main task is to detect and suppress various communication channels and other systems that use radio signals, particularly tactical communication and control systems, including satellite systems," the Ministry of Defense stated.

The Ministry added that the end of November was particularly productive in terms of striking Russian weapons and equipment.

Destruction of Russian BMD-4s

During the repulsion of a Russian assault in the Donetsk direction, Ukrainian defense forces struck 7 Russian BMD-4s with crews and troops aboard in just one day. 

The Ministry of Defense highlighted that the BMD-4 is the latest version of the Russian-made airborne armored infantry fighting vehicles.

Strike on Russian S-400 Triumf air defense system

Ukrainian Armed Forces also launched a missile strike on the deployment site of the expensive Russian S-400 Triumf air defense system. As a result, the radar station was hit.

"It is important to note that the radar station's functionality is essential for the operation of other components of the air defense system," the Ministry of Defense stated.

Destruction of Podlyot radars

At the end of November, the Ukrainian reconnaissance group destroyed two Russian radar complexes Podlyot in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

"This is a mobile radar system used by Russia to detect air targets at low and extremely low altitudes in complex conditions with obstacles. Specifically, this radar is involved in providing target designation for the S-300 and S-400 missile defense systems," the Ministry of Defense explained.

Zoopark radar destroyed

Also, among the important targets of the Russian army hit by the Ukrainian Defense Forces in November is the Russian Zoopark radar.

This is a mobile counter-battery warfare system. The primary purpose of the complex is to detect the enemy's fire assets and adjust fire.

Strike on Kasta 2E2 radar station

Another high-value target struck by Ukrainian forces was the Russian mobile low-altitude radar station Kasta 2E2.

"Its purpose is to control airspace, determine coordinates, and identify air targets, including those at extremely low altitudes. It transmits the coordinates and movement parameters of air targets to air defense systems. However, it can also be used as an air traffic control radar," the Ministry of Defense explained.

  • On November 29, servicemen with the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine destroyed three Russian radar systems in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
