Ukraine brings home 197 prisoners of war in major exchange
On Wednesday, March 19, a prisoner swap took place between Ukraine and Russia, during which 175 Ukrainian servicemen returned home. Another 22 defenders were brought back thanks to efforts outside the exchanges
This was reported by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Today is another day when Ukraine brings its people home. 175 of our defenders have been released from Russian captivity. Another 22 defenders are returning home thanks to measures outside the exchanges. Among them are seriously wounded soldiers and those whom Russia persecuted for fabricated crimes. All of them will urgently receive necessary medical and psychological assistance," Zelensky wrote.
According to him, this is one of the largest exchanges. The president added that the returning soldiers served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Navy, the National Guard, the Territorial Defense Forces, and the Border Guard Service.
Among the released prisoners of war are soldiers who defended the land in Mariupol, at Azovstal, in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kherson regions, as well as in Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Kursk regions.
