This is reported by The Telegraph.
British Typhoon fighter jets were scrambled after Russian aircraft came too close to NATO’s borders, raising concerns.
The first interception occurred on Tuesday, April 15. Two Typhoon jets, based at the Polish Malbork Air Base, were sent to intercept a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
Less than 48 hours later, another pair of jets was dispatched to intercept an unidentified aircraft that had taken off from the Kaliningrad region, between Poland and Lithuania.
The Telegraph adds that this was the first time British jets were involved in Operation Chessman – a new NATO mission aimed at enhancing Europe’s air defense.
- In February, two Norwegian F-35 fighter jets also intercepted a group of Russian bombers over the Far North.
