UK and France ready to deploy troops to Ukraine — but face hold-up linked to Trump, – Head of Ukraine-NATO group
Both the British and the French have stated that any deployment of their troops to Ukraine will definitely include air support alongside their ground forces, so they need American air defense systems to protect their sectors of responsibility
Yuriy Romanyuk, head of the All-Ukrainian Public Organization "Ukraine in NATO", reported this on Espreso TV-
“Great Britain and France are definitely ready to send troops to Ukraine regardless of Trump’s stance. But they depend on Trump in another aspect—they’re asking him to provide enough air defense systems to protect British and French forces on Ukrainian soil. They need Patriots to reliably defend themselves and be sure that Russian missiles and Shahed drones won’t hit their sectors. They can’t rely solely on Ukraine’s air defense system because of the different locations and deployments,” Romanyuk explained.
According to him, both the British and French have confirmed they will enter Ukraine with aviation support to complement their ground troops, meaning their aircraft will be based at certain airfields. Therefore, they require American air defense coverage.
“But Trump, taking advantage of the situation and listening to Putin’s wishes, is not providing these air defense systems. He currently justifies this by saying that air defense is needed in the Middle East—in Israel, Iraq, and Syria—to protect American bases. Iran has threatened to retaliate against U.S. bases in response to Israel’s strike. That’s why Israel received 20,000 air defense missiles, which we were supposed to use to shoot down Shaheds in Ukraine. The Americans knew an attack on Iran could happen any day, and that thousands of Iranian Shaheds would follow in response and need to be intercepted. Now we see that even Israel’s air defense system is being penetrated by Iranian missiles. That’s why the UK and France can’t finalize their decisions without American air defense systems for protection,” Yuriy Romanyuk noted.
