Tusk: No European leader should attend Moscow's May 9 parade
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the participation of European leaders in the May 9 parade on Red Square in Moscow is politically unacceptable
He said this during a joint press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, reported by Ukrinform.
According to Tusk, Europe has no right to repeat the mistakes of the past by showing indifference or ambiguity in situations where it is clear who the aggressor is and who the victim is. He emphasized that the war in Ukraine is an example of such a situation, and European leaders must maintain solidarity.
"We are here today to clearly and loudly say: Europe, the Western community can never make such a mistake again. In situations like the World War II or the war in Ukraine, where the situation is black and white, when everyone knows where good is and where evil is, where the aggressor is and where the victim is, and where everyone knows the source of the threat and danger – we all must be united and solidarized. If someone does not understand this, then they are putting themselves outside the community," he said.
"To celebrate the end of the World War II on Red Square in the shadow of the Kremlin today – is political blindness for Europeans," Tusk added.
He also noted that this is an issue for the Slovak leadership, while the positions of Poland and the Netherlands on this matter are clear.
- Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced his intention to attend the May 9 parade in Moscow. Serbian President Vučić expressed a similar desire.
