He made the statement on Truth Social.
After a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Donald Trump called on Russia and Ukraine for a full and unconditional ceasefire, warning of new sanctions for violating the truce.
The message stated that, ideally, the U.S. was urging a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. It expressed hope that a credible truce would be upheld and that both countries would be held accountable for respecting the integrity of the direct talks. It also warned that, should the ceasefire not be observed, the U.S. and its partners would impose new sanctions.
Trump also noted that it is necessary for everyone to strive to end the war, and he is committed to ensuring a lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine, and so are European partners.
“This ceasefire must ultimately build toward a Peace Agreement. It can all be done very quickly, and I will be available on a moment’s notice if my services are needed,” he emphasized.
