Trump seeks to end Russia-Ukraine war quickly at any cost - Ukrainian diplomat
Diplomat, former Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. and France, Oleh Shamshur, believes that Donald Trump's main goal is to end Russia's war against Ukraine at any cost
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"We now have to work from an unpleasant, but definitely real situation. The situation is that, under any conditions, Trump wants to end this war. He doesn’t care about the terms. Clearly, he is also indifferent if Ukraine’s national interests are violated in the process. Yesterday, American media responded heavily to Trump’s conversation with Putin. In one outlet, they compared his actions and statements regarding the resolution of another war – between Israel and Hamas. Even there, there are terms for Hamas, though Trump still supports a ceasefire. These terms include ensuring security for Israel and freeing hostages. As for ending the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump does not set any conditions for Russia," explained Shamshur.
The diplomat noted that Donald Trump's administration does not express any criticism of Russia. As a result, the issue of pressuring Moscow to halt the fighting on the front line remains unresolved.
"Today, the issue of U.S. pressure on Russia to speed up the end of the war remains open. This fact speaks volumes about Trump's interests. To this day, we have not heard any critical remarks from Trump's administration about Russia," he pointed out.
Trump-Putin call
On March 18, U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin that lasted about two hours. According to both parties, they agreed on a limited stop in attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Moscow also demanded a suspension of mobilization in Ukraine and the rearmament of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during a potential ceasefire.
After the talks between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Kremlin leader had effectively rejected the proposal for a complete ceasefire.
On Sunday, March 23, representatives of the U.S. and Russia will hold negotiations in Saudi Arabia regarding the details of halting strikes on energy and civilian infrastructure in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
