Geostrategy researcher and founder of the Free Nations PostRussia Forum, Oleh Magaletsky, believes that Donald Trump could sharply change his rhetoric towards Russia if Putin continues to drag out negotiations on a ceasefire in Ukraine

He shared this opinion on the Espreso TV channel.

"Today, the interests of the U.S. and Russia mainly align in terms of negotiations. The Russian Federation needs the legitimization of the occupied territories. They want to create the impression of willingness to negotiate and show that they are people capable of making agreements," said Magaletsky.

According to the expert, the U.S. administration still does not understand who they are dealing with. Russia has always used the tactic of dragging out negotiations.

"In the U.S. administration, the motives for negotiations with Russia are completely different. They want to achieve what they promised to their voters and the world – a ceasefire in Ukraine and peace. However, unfortunately, the administration of Donald Trump still doesn’t realize who they are dealing with; they believe they can somehow convince and find common ground with a terrorist country. It seems to me that gradually the patience of the Trump administration will wear thin. We are already seeing more signs that Putin's constant dragging out of negotiations is annoying Trump. Putin's tactic of dragging out negotiations certainly doesn’t sit well with Trump," he added.

  • On March 25, a new round of talks took place in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, between Ukrainian and US delegations. Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow agreed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea.
  • On March 26, it was noted that Russia's conditions for the agreement on the truce regime in the Black Sea include the removal of European sanctions.
  •  On April 10, a new round of negotiations between the United States and Russia took place in Istanbul, Turkey. Representatives will discuss the normalization of embassy operations.
