Trump pushing deals because Ukraine never had real peace plan — Ukrainian MP

Ukrainian MP Yuliia Sirko (Klymenko) stated that the lack of a clear Ukrainian position and concrete plans has led the United States to pressure Ukraine into accepting peace on terms that suit Washington

She made the comments on Espreso TV.

“We ended up in a situation where Trump and his team are pushing deals on us because we never had a real peace plan or investment strategy. The deal isn’t just about natural resources — it includes infrastructure, ports, and state-owned enterprises. It’s a comprehensive document that America is offering us,” Sirko (Klymenko) explained.

According to the MP, the U.S. took advantage of the situation: they identified what they were interested in, signed agreements, and are now trying to impose them on Ukraine. She believes this stems from Ukraine’s passive diplomatic approach, which mistakenly relied on emotional appeals and striking imagery to influence a pragmatic and capitalist country like the U.S. “That was a very naïve approach,” she said.

“There is still no plan from Ukraine. If we had one, all efforts would be directed toward a single goal. The absence of a clear position and strategic vision has led us to the current situation — where we are being pressured into peace using methods that make sense to Americans,” she emphasized.

Sirko (Klymenko) added that the U.S., having realized that no peace plan can be quickly implemented, will likely shift full responsibility onto the UK and Europe.

“We cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes. We need a clear cooperation plan with the British and Europeans — both regarding a peace strategy and how to manage our natural resources. If we hand over those resources without security guarantees, there will be a line of takers,” she concluded.

  • Ukrainian MP, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, Colonel Roman Kostenko says the London talks are "not a dead end."
