Trump has private commercial interests in Putin — foreign affairs expert Dobriak
Foreign affairs expert Yevhen Dobriak noted that Trump, perhaps not fully understanding the situation, is effectively siding with Russia
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“Trump is currently actively promoting a policy of rapprochement with Russia. We are watching his actions in the foreign policy sphere regarding Russia's war against Ukraine. Trump, perhaps not fully understanding the situation, is effectively siding with Russia. He has de facto legitimized Putin, which gives him certain advantages. As a result, Putin has more freedom of action.
We are seeing an escalation of the situation, including increased attacks on Ukraine's energy and social infrastructure, and there are no signs of a ceasefire. New demands are immediately emerging, such as lifting sanctions on Russian banks, connecting to SWIFT, and easing EU sanctions,” Dobriak said.
According to the expert, Putin's main goal remains the complete seizure of Ukraine, which will allow him to fulfill his main historical mission and geopolitical task, as enshrined in the Brzezinski doctrine: Russia without Ukraine can only claim the status of an Asian empire, while Russia with Ukraine becomes a great Eurasian empire. Putin understands this and is actively working in this direction, and Trump is playing along in a way.
“I believe that Trump has his own commercial non-state interests, because in recent years we have not seen any serious cooperation between the United States and Russia. There are also no joint large projects that could create a strategic perspective for both countries. Therefore, the deal that Trump is trying to conclude seems to be more focused on his own interests,” Dobriak emphasized.
