Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), Andriy Kovalenko, says the war in Ukraine won’t end this year because Russia refused to support the ceasefire proposal

He wrote this on Telegram.

According to Kovalenko, Russian leader Vladimir Putin rejected the U.S.-backed ceasefire idea, which Ukraine had agreed to back in March. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed this.

Kovalenko stressed that there are two paths forward: either the West takes a firm stance, helps Ukraine defeat Russia by force, and prevents a Russian-DPRK invasion of the Baltics in 4–6 years; or the West keeps pretending NATO offers full protection, even though it’s falling behind in modern warfare.

“Unfortunately, the war will continue this year and move into next. That’s the reality,” Kovalenko concluded.

  • In March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine wants peace and proposed first steps to end the war with Russia.
