Technical negotiations completed: Kallas discusses EU's work on tribunal for Putin
The European Union has completed technical negotiations regarding the creation of a special tribunal to prosecute the crime of aggression against Ukraine
The political phase of the process will begin thereafter, according to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, during a debate in the European Parliament on "Russian war crimes in Ukraine: standing with Ukraine and defending justice," reports European Pravda.
According to Kallas, the EU is leading the process of establishing a special tribunal to punish Russia's crime of aggression. Technical negotiations on this matter have recently concluded, and soon the political review of documents will begin.
"As for the specific crime of aggression (by Russia against Ukraine), the European Union is leading the work on the creation of a special tribunal. Legal experts have recently completed technical negotiations regarding its establishment. Soon, the Council of Europe will start the political review process for the creation of the tribunal, including the draft of its statute," Kallas stated.
She emphasized that the EU "is working with international partners on the creation of a Commission to review claims" for Ukraine and supports the Damage Register.
"Only justice will give every Ukrainian family the peace of mind needed to move forward and rebuild their lives," Kallas stressed.
- On March 25, the initiators of the special tribunal for Russia confirmed progress in the technical work on three draft documents for the establishment of the judicial body.
