He stated this during a broadcast on the Espreso TV channel.

"Any negotiations with Russia about Ukraine without Ukraine’s participation are a disgraceful fact for the U.S. as a state. This will remain on the conscience of the current American administration and in history. Regarding the negotiations themselves, it is quite clear that President Trump is eager to meet with Putin, and obviously, Putin wants to meet with Trump to break his isolation and demonstrate renewed relations with the U.S.," Eisenberg emphasized.

The Manhattan University professor suggested that the Russian delegation might offer the American side several initiatives: negotiations on nuclear arms reduction, which could likely interest President Trump; various energy sector projects, which may also appeal to Trump; and joint efforts to combat ISIS and terrorism, which again could align with Trump’s interests.

"In exchange, the Russian delegation will ask the American side to agree to Russia’s terms for ending the war. That is, the U.S. delegation would accept Ukraine’s de facto capitulation. The consequences and outcomes are difficult to predict at this point, but I believe this is the direction events will take," Eisenberg noted.

  • A CNN article states that Vladimir Putin is in a good mood ahead of highly important U.S.-Russia negotiations on Tuesday, February 18, in Saudi Arabia regarding ending the war in Ukraine.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv was unaware of the U.S.-Russia negotiations in Saudi Arabia and will not recognize any agreements about Ukraine made without Ukraine’s participation.
