Slovak mental health experts call for PM Fico’s resignation over recent behavior
Over 100 specialists from Slovakia in the fields of psychology and psychiatry have written an open letter to Prime Minister Robert Fico, requesting his resignation. The signatories justify their demand by citing the behaviour of the government leader, including attacks on the opposition and inappropriate conduct toward President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
This is reported by Aktuality.
The authors of the letter are psychiatry and psychology professionals – Jozef Gaštó and Anton Heretik, with the document also signed by experts from across Slovakia.
"Your political behavior is increasingly characterized by an authoritarian style, manipulation of facts, lying, slander, attacks on political opponents, journalists, and ordinary citizens who express disagreement with your policies," the specialists stated, adding that Fico does not shy away from attacking the families of the opposition.
The letter emphasizes that the Slovak prime minister is strengthening not the state, but his own power. His foreign policy initiatives contradict the European Union and NATO, of which Slovakia is a member.
Psychologists and psychiatrists also criticize Fico's negative attitude towards Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and his friendly relations with Russia, which the prime minister encourages his coalition to support.
"We hope for your ability to self-reflect and the possibility of correcting your political behavior, including considering the option of stepping away from high politics," the signatories conclude.
Meanwhile, Fico accused the specialists of political bias.
