Military and political observer Oleksandr Kovalenko wrote on his Telegram channel that by mid-February, Russian forces used over 7,500 FPV drones, setting a new record of over 1,000 drones used in a single day on one occasion.

Despite China's September 2024 restrictions on dual-use products, including FPV drones, Russia continues to break records in drone deployment. Ukrainian volunteers face increasing difficulty obtaining such drones, while Russia remains unaffected.

Based on these trends, it's expected that February 2025 will see an all-time high, with over 14,000 drones used and an average daily rate of 500 units.

  • The UN reports short-range drones as the top cause of civilian deaths in Ukraine in January, with usage surging during the war.
