Russia's ballistic arsenal: expert reveals scale of Kremlin's missile launcher stockpile
Russia has 162 launchers for ballistic missiles, but their number is already decreasing due to strikes by Ukrainian forces
Aviation expert Valerii Romanenko stated this on Espreso TV.
"The number of launchers for ballistic missiles that the Russians have, according to authoritative international reference books, is almost exactly 162 units. This is as of the beginning of 2025. In particular, the reference book The Military Balance 2025 gives this exact figure, and it is repeated in other sources.
As of today, Russia already has three fewer launchers. At least one has definitely been lost, and two more are under repair. The serial production of ballistic missiles reaches 60 units, and the stockpiles are no less than 300. Not all of these launchers are located near Ukraine. The Russians have 14 Iskander divisions, which are distributed across the entire territory—even as far as the Far East," Romanenko noted.
The aviation expert added that the Defense Forces have already suppressed the activity of the Russian fleet, which can now only launch missiles without leaving the base in Novorossiysk.
"On June 1, we suppressed Russian aviation; for several days now, there have been no reports of bomber takeoffs. The first strike was delivered against Iskander positions. Previously, there were strikes on Russian warehouses and arsenals where ready missiles are stored. There were also attempts to strike the plant in Kolomna, where these missiles are produced," Romanenko said.
The leading research fellow at the State Aviation Museum added that the best way to protect against strikes is to deliver a counterstrike.
"The most effective way is the gradual suppression of all of Russia's production potential for these missiles, their logistics routes, and directly destroying the launchers. At the moment, the situation is developing in this direction," Romanenko emphasized.
On June 5, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a missile strike on the area where a unit of missile troops was concentrated, in particular hitting Iskander missile systems.
