Russia's attack on Kyiv kills 3, including 5-year-old child, on March 23

Night drone attack on March 23: Among three dead in Kyiv, there is a child, one victim burned in their apartment

The Russian army launched strike drones on Ukraine on the evening of Saturday, March 22. Drones fell in various areas of Kyiv, resulting in casualties, including a 5-year-old child. There were also victims and damage in Kyiv Oblast.


Attack on Kyiv
At 20:39 on March 22, an air alert was declared in Kyiv. By 21:20, Kyiv City State Administration reported that the air defense was working against Russian drones on the left bank of the capital.

Later, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko informed about a drone crash in the Podil district of the capital.

By 00:31, it became known that a drone hit a multi-apartment building in the Dnipro district (preliminary), reported the head of Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko. Mayor Klychko added that there was a fire on the upper floors.

Fragments were also reported in the Holosiivskyi district.

At around 02:55, the State Emergency Service (SES) reported two dead as a result of the night drone attack on Kyiv.

By the morning, the number of deaths increased to three. Among the victims of the night attack was a 5-year-old child and their father. Another 10 people were injured, with the youngest victim being only 11 months old. According to Klychko, one person is in the hospital from the ten injured.

As a result of the attack, drone fragments and debris from shot-down aerial targets caused:

  • Drone fragments falling in the industrial zone and a fire on the 20th floor of a residential building in the Podil district;
  • In the Dnipro district: a fire on the upper floors of a 9-story residential building, damage to a food establishment, falling debris on a multi-story building, damage to an apartment on the 6th floor of a 16-story residential building (window, floor, and ceiling);
  • Falling debris and fire in a non-residential area in a 4-story office and warehouse building, covering an area of 2000 square meters, as well as a fire in a metal container in the Holosiivskyi district;
  • Falling debris in the Desnianskyi district forest park area;
  • Falling debris in a residential neighborhood, damaging six cars in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

Consequences of the attack in Kyiv on March 23, 2025

By the morning, work on dismantling the rubble continued in the Dnipro district, with local residents helping emergency services. The fire was extinguished after approximately 5 hours. An 80-year-old woman living on the top floor of the building died in the fire.

According to the neighbor of the deceased, the woman begged for help, but no emergency service could approach the building because it was blocked by cars.

"We were peacefully sleeping, then we heard an explosion. We looked out the window, and fragments were flying. The glass in our apartment shattered," said Illya, a resident of the building.

Consequences of the attack on Kyiv on March 23, 2025

One of the enemy drones hit the apartment of actor Andriy Isayenko in the Dnipro district.
Isayenko reported this on Facebook, noting that his family is safe, but there were fatalities and injuries in the building.

Actor Sergey Kysil, actress Vitalina Bibliiv, Rymma Zyubina, and others called on people to help the victims financially.

Later, a video was published showing the moment of the drone strike in the Podil district of Kyiv.

Consequences of the attack in Kyiv Oblast
According to the SES, late on March 22, a fire broke out in the territory of an enterprise in the Brovary district due to falling drone fragments. The fire was extinguished at 01:08 without casualties or injuries.

However, at 01:33 on March 23, in the village of Kryukivshchyna, Buchanskyi district, two people were injured, and three private homes were damaged by falling debris.

Drone Movement
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, as of 18:45, warnings were issued for the Chernihiv and Sumy regions regarding the threat of enemy strike drones.

Within 10 minutes, warnings were also issued for Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions about the threat of Russian drones.

An update on the movement of enemy strike drones at 19:02:

  • A drone from Sumy region to Chernihiv region, heading southwest;
  • A drone in the northern Zaporizhzhia region, heading northwest.
    At 19:17, the Air Force reported the threat of enemy strike drones in Kharkiv region.

At 19:21, a drone was moving from the southeast towards Dnipro.

At 19:32, warnings about enemy drones were also issued for Donetsk region.

At 19:38, enemy drones were moving from the northeast towards Chernihiv.

"Poltava, Kirovograd regions – threat of enemy strike drones," reported the Air Force at 19:42.

At 20:00, warnings were issued for Kyiv region regarding Russian drones. 15 minutes later, military reported a drone in the Kremenchuk area.

Around 20:25, the Air Force warned the Cherkasy and Zolotonosha districts in Cherkasy region about the threat of drones and reported a Russian drone moving toward Poltava.

At 20:29, warnings were issued for Zhytomyr region regarding drone threats.

At 21:09, enemy drones were flying from the east towards Kyiv. 15 minutes later, military reported a Russian drone near Boryspil.

As of 21:29, warnings about drones were issued for Rivne region, and 10 minutes later for Cherkasy region.

At 21:59, enemy drones were moving in the following directions:

  • In the northeast of Rivne region, heading west;
  • In northern Zhytomyr region, heading west;
  • South of Kyiv, heading west/northwest;
  • In the north of Dnipropetrovsk region, heading west.
    Most drones in Sumy, Chernihiv, and Poltava regions were constantly changing their course.

Around 01:00, enemy drones in western Zhytomyr region were moving south, drones in Vinnytsia region were moving west, and in northern Kharkiv region, they were moving southeast.

At 02:20, drones from the Black Sea area were moving south toward Odesa. The threat of enemy strike drones was also reported for Kharkiv region.

On the evening of Friday, March 21, the Russian army launched strike drones on Ukrainian territory. There were casualties and injuries in Zaporizhzhia as a result of the attack.
