Russia is manipulating nuclear safety issues amid Kursk incursion — military expert
Serhiy Zgurets, Defense Express CEO and military expert, believes Russia is attempting to shift the focus to the claim that the advance of Ukrainian troops threatens the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
"Yesterday, August 11, reports emerged of black smoke at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. It was later clarified that the events occurred about a kilometer away from the nuclear reactors, specifically at a cooling tower, which is used to cool water. The Russians are using these cooling towers to store equipment, ammunition, and other materials, effectively shielding their military capabilities. There were indeed explosions, and reports of black smoke followed, which raised concerns at the IAEA, stating that this poses potential safety risks," noted the military expert.
According to him, Russia is engaging in such actions to falsely accuse the Ukrainian side of shelling.
"On the other hand, I have the impression that the Russians are deliberately bringing up the issue of nuclear power plants in the context of our actions in the Kursk region, possibly to later shift the focus to claims that the Ukrainian advance threatens the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. The game is unclear for now, but the topic of nuclear power plants is coming to the forefront. We'll see what arguments or stories the Russians come up with next," concluded Serhiy Zgurets.
- The fire on the territory of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which was reported the day before, has been extinguished.
