Russian troops crossing Oskil River would be major threat – Deputy commander of Achilles regiment
Russian troops are pressuring the entire frontline, with the Kharkiv region and Kupiansk direction being no exception. Russia continues its attempts to fully seize the left bank of the Oskil River. According to the latest reports, Ukrainian forces have pushed Russian troops north of the village of Zapadne. What is the current operational situation in this area?
Oles Malarevych, Deputy Commander of Ukraine's 429th Separate Drone Regiment Achilles, shared the information on Hromadske Radio.
"We are working on a wide section of the front - both to the north of Kupiansk and south of Kupiansk. If we talk about Dvorichna right now — there is the village Zapadne nearby — indeed, a small tactical operation was conducted there to improve the position of our troops.
The enemy is present there with an infantry unit, and they have redeployed their equipment. We have been working for a long time with other units to prevent them from making crossings. Their entire logistics is being destroyed every day and every night so they cannot do it. Because if their equipment is moved to the right bank, it would be a very big threat – both for Kupiansk and for Velykyi Burlak.
So, for now, our task is exactly that. But the enemy is infiltrating there with live forces, about five hundred of them are constantly there. They are dying, of course, without support from their mechanized units, but they keep sending new ones, crossing over."
The military officer noted that Russia is using armored vehicles in assaults on the left bank, but there are now significantly fewer of them than before:
"They periodically accumulate to create armored 'fists.' Several such assaults have been repelled over the past three months, and now they are assaulting with no more than two or three units of equipment, but they are being destroyed. Mostly, they are moving on light vehicles, buggies, motorcycles. This is so they can be mobile, fast, and not get killed by drones. But we also chase them with drones and destroy them," said Oles Malarevych.
- Military and political observer Kovalenko emphasizes that the situation in Kursk region is challenging but not catastrophic, and the misuse of the term "encirclement" is fueling Russian disinformation.
