Russian-Ukrainian war will not end in 10 days
The issue of reducing purchases of Russian oil will not be the main topic of negotiations with Russia
I wouldn’t rush to celebrate Trump’s new ultimatum to Putin. Even a fool understands — and Trump is no fool — that the war won’t end in 10 days.
The real targets of Trump’s statement are India and China, with whom the U.S. is currently engaged in intense trade negotiations.
This is a way to pressure them: either they show compliance, or Trump will be "forced" to punish them for their stubbornness with tariffs, using a convenient excuse — “Putin does not want to stop the war, and you’re buying his oil.”
Accordingly, the more they give in to pressure during the tariff negotiations, the less likely any concrete actions will follow Trump’s ultimatum to Putin.
And one can only guess how much of a priority the issue of reducing purchases of Russian oil actually holds in these negotiations.
