Russian military activity expected to surge in Kharkiv, Sumy regions in coming days
Reviewing the front-line situation and reports from Ukraine’s General Staff, Ivan Tymochko, head of the Reservists Council, said Russia is once again stepping up offensive operations
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
Particular attention is drawn to the Lyman direction, where more than 22 assault actions took place. The Toretsk direction was also active, with about 20 attacks and the Pokrovsk direction, where 37 attacks were recorded.
“The enemy is trying to turn the Lyman-Kupyansk direction into one of the most active and powerful. The Russians hope to force the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the Kursk region. Therefore, the Russian activation in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions is likely to increase. The enemy continues to implement plans to create a so-called “sanitary zone” in the Kharkiv region, which have now entered an active phase,” said Tymochko.
Studying the fighting along the entire front line, one can see that, in addition to infantry units, the Russians are actively using artillery, bringing it as close to the front line as possible. This explains the Russian significant losses, he says.
“For several days in a row, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been destroying more than 100 artillery munitions. For comparison, this is the equivalent of a conventional one and a half artillery brigade of the enemy, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy in one day. In addition to artillery, our soldiers destroy enemy air defense systems and multiple launch rocket systems every day,” noted the Head of the Reserve Council of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to him, the Russians are taking risks and pulling their resources to the front line, probably fearing a weakening of their own positions, which could lead to a counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“This tactic may be related to the Russians' fear of possible localized operations by Ukraine, similar to the one in the Belgorod region. This makes them pull all available forces and equipment to the front. On the other hand, they fear that the Ukrainian Armed Forces could conduct a military operation anywhere in Russia's border areas. This could weaken Russia's position in the international arena during the negotiation process,” said Tymochko.
In the coming days, we should expect an increase in Russian activity. We should also be prepared for numerous information provocations and reports of fictitious victories of Russian forces, the serviceman added.
- Over the past day, March 21, 142 clashes were recorded on the Russian-Ukrainian front. In the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces stopped 23 enemy assaults.
