Russian troops try to advance 53 times, launch 13 attacks in Kupyansk direction – General Staff report

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shared the information on May 23.

In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian soldiers are repelling an enemy attack in the Murom-Starytsia direction. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are making every effort to enforce the defense lines. 

In the Kupyansk direction, there have been four attempts by Russian forces to advance near Stelmakhivka and Hrekivka. One attack has been repelled, and three firefights are still ongoing. Russia has attacked Ukraine’s defense lines 13 times, 8 of the attacks are still ongoing, particularly near Stelmakhivka, Tverdokhlibove, Druzhelyubivka, Nevske and Ivanivka. Russian troops also carried out three air strikes and fired unguided missiles near Andriivka, Serhiivka and Makiivka. Ukrainian soldiers are halting Russian troops from building on their efforts, keep them under fire control and deplete the offensive potential. Russia’s losses are being clarified. 

Yesterday, Russian forces lost over 100 people in this direction. Ukrainian troops damaged a Russian tank, destroyed two armored fighting vehicles, two armored personnel carriers, 18 UAVs and two combat vehicles.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian troops repelled an attack near the village of Terny. 

In the Kramatorsk direction, six combat clashes have been recorded so far. Ukrainian troops are repelling three Russian attacks near Andriivka and Novyi settlements. The situation is under control. Russian troops launched two more air strikes, using Su-25 attack aircraft to hit the area near Druzhba and Pivnichne settlements.

In the Pokrovsk direction, seven combat clashes are taking place, in particular near Kalynove, Novooleksandrivka and Sokil. In total, Russia has made 16 attempts to improve its tactical situation. Ukrainian defenders are fiercely resisting the invading forces. Russian forces supported their actions with six air strikes on Yevhenivka, Kalynove, Novoselivka Persha and Netailove, and UAV strikes near Umanske. According to updated data, Russia’s losses yesterday amounted to over 100 soldiers and a Su-25 attack aircraft.

In the Kurakhove direction, two combat clashes are ongoing near Krasnohorivka and Vodiane.

In the Vremivka direction, an attack near Staromayorsk was successfully repelled. 

In the Kherson direction, Russian forces made two attempts to force Ukrainian troops out of their positions near Krynky. One attack has been repelled. The battle continues.

143 combat clashes take place in one day

During the day, Russia launched six missile attacks on Ukrainian troop positions and settlements, using 7 missiles, 49 airstrikes (including 70 KAB attacks), over 1,000 kamikaze drone strikes, and 4,567 attacks with various weapons, including 164 MLRS attacks.

Since the beginning of this day, 28 combat clashes have already taken place. Russian forces launched 5 air strikes, 13 KAB bombs, and 33 kamikaze drones. They fired 569 times at Ukrainian troops' positions.

Ukrainian Armed Forces hit 4 Russian troop concentrations

Over the past day, Ukraine’s Air Force, missile forces and artillery destroyed 4 concentrations of Russian personnel, 2 control points, 2 cannons, 2 UAV control stations, an electronic warfare station, a S-400 anti-aircraft missile system and a Su-25 aircraft.

• Over the past day, May 22, Ukrainian forces eliminated 1 Russian aircraft, 20 artillery systems and at least 1,330 soldiers.
