Russian troops push attacks in Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv sectors – Defense Express
Valeriy Ryabykh, military expert and director of development at the media and consulting company Defense Express, says Russian forces are ramping up pressure on Ukraine's Defense Forces, increasing attacks to improve their tactical positions
He discussed this live on Espreso TV.
"In the Zaporizhzhia sector, the enemy (Russian troops - ed.) is trying to secure the most advantageous positions, including near the settlement of Pyatykhatky. Small Russian assault groups are gradually attempting to strike our units along the Stepove–Mali Shcherbaky line. Overall, the situation remains under control. The Russians have stepped up assaults to capture the dominant heights currently held by Ukraine's Defense Forces, aiming to strengthen their position for further offensive actions in this area. However, as before, the invaders are suffering heavy losses with their 'meat assaults,'" Ryabykh noted.
He pointed out that the Zaporizhzhia sector is now contributing higher numbers to the daily Russian casualty statistics. Since Ukrainian forces hold the high ground, they have every opportunity to inflict maximum damage on Russia's military capabilities.
"As for the Kharkiv sector, the situation around Kupiansk has stabilized. The enemy, having failed to achieve its objectives there, is now attempting to advance in the northern part of the Kharkiv region. This includes intensified fighting near Vovchansk, where Russian forces are using underground infrastructure. They have also increased pressure along the Topoli–Kamyanka line, trying to secure better positions for further operations in this area," he said.
- According to Ukraine's General Staff, 140 combat clashes took place on the Russian-Ukrainian front on March 23. The heaviest concentration of Russian attacks was recorded in the Pokrovsk sector. Russian forces lost another 1,280 soldiers, along with multiple pieces of equipment and weapons.
