Russian-installed authorities accused the Ukrainian defenders of shelling the village of Staryi Krym in Mariupol region in March 2022, sentencing them to serve their terms in a strict-regime penal colony.
The servicemen sentenced include members of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces: Andriy Shestak, Nazariy Moroz, Vladyslav Yavorskyi, Vadym Shulha, Serhiy Yampolskyi, Maksym Kolbasin, Dmytro Shalara, Volodymyr Penzin, and Kostiantyn Romaniuk.
“All of them defended Mariupol against the Russian occupiers, stayed on the territory of the Azovstal steel plant, and were later taken captive by Russian forces,” the Mariupol City Council stated.
- The so-called "court" of the DPR terrorist organization also sentenced three Ukrainian marines to 28 and 29.5 years for allegedly murdering civilians.
