Zelenskyy, who was near the explosion, shared his firsthand account, saying, "We saw this strike today. You can see who we are dealing with, they don’t care where they strike. I know that there were victims today, I don’t know all the details yet, but I know that there are dead and wounded.”
The President revealed the Russian attack during a press conference, according to Suspilne.
“Whether military, civilian, international guests – these people don't care. They're either out of their minds or completely out of control of what their terrorist army is doing. We need to defend ourselves first and foremost. The best way to do that is with an air defense system,” emphasized Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy and Mitsotakis were in the port of Odesa, commemorating those who died on March 2 due to a Russian Shahed drone hitting a residential building.
"President Zelenskyy and his staff showed us and explained the importance of the port and what is being done to restore and strengthen the Ukrainian sea route. At the very end, we heard the sound of sirens and explosions that were very close to us. We didn't have time to go to a safe place; it's a very impressive experience," Mitsotakis shared.
The alarm was sounded in Odesa at 10:41 a.m., followed by a powerful explosion at 10:45 a.m., prompting the Air Force to announce the threat of using ballistic weapons.
Navy spokesman Captain 3rd rank Dmytro Pletenchuk reported to "Ukrainian Pravda" that five people died as a result of the strike.
"On March 6, the enemy attacked the city's port infrastructure. Five people were killed. Investigations are underway, and all the circumstances of yet another war crime of the Russian Federation are being established," read the statement.
