Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Chernihiv claim life of policeman, injure teenager
On the evening of December 18, Russian forces attacked a border community in the Chernihiv region. A policeman lost his life, and a 16-year-old was injured
The National Police and Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv regional military administration, reported the incident.
Russian forces reportedly used a drone to attack the Novhorod-Siverskyi district, injuring a 41-year-old policeman from the local police department while he was on duty. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
In another incident, Russian forces launched artillery strikes on the Semenivka community in the same district, targeting civilian homes. A 16-year-old boy was injured, and a residential building was damaged.
"The teenager received medical care, and his life is not in danger," the report stated.
By morning, the National Police confirmed the passing of the injured officer, who had been in critical condition.
Serhiy Khavluk, a 41-year-old police officer from the Novhorod-Siverskyi police department, was killed in the line of duty. He leaves behind a wife and a child.
"Serhiy Khavluk was dedicated to his work in the police force. Despite the challenges of war and the dangers of working near the border, he remained committed to ensuring law and order and protecting his community," the police said in a statement.
